Tanks Modern Age

 With the announcement of the new World of Tanks Game being released (seems to be Tanks but re branded) and no word of  Modern Age being included. My local shop (Rogue Wargaming) has put its Tanks stock on sale (£3 a tank!). I popped in and grabbed a Chieftain tank and a Striker for my British. This gives me a small but decent force for both my Brits and Russians..

British Forces

My British force now contains 

3 Chieftains 

1 Scimitar

1 Striker

1 Lynx Helicopter

The newest Chieftain I painted last night and I'm super happy with it. Also tried  a way to take pictures, using lots of white backgrounds.

Super happy with the greens on this camouflage. 

Russian Forces

4 T-64s

1 BMP

1 Hind Helicopter 

4 tanks and an APC give it a nice punch plus the Hind is an absolute beast!!!. 

These forces should be enough for me and my sons to have a few good battles! 

Tanks Modern Age BMP 2

For Christmas my friend Matt (Team owner of the Outriders from RCBBL) got me a BMP 2 for my Russian Tanks Modern Age force. A welcome bit of speed now has now been added to the force.
Super simple to build I think it only involved around 10 pieces that needed to be stuck together.  Love a simple build!
Then on to paint it, now I checked the box art and some Google images. It turns out BMP 2s were not the most colourful of vehicles at all.  So I promise it has had paint on it and a wash. Though of you look at box art and model you will see what I mean virtually the same colour.  Well anyway here it is

Hopefully the Russians will be going into action soon

Tanks Modern Age Hind

The last match of the RCBBL third week was cancelled due to a pet emergency on Sunday night. So to cheer myself up I assembled and painted the Russian Hind I had bought with Christmas money.

Assembly was fairly easy, thankfully not to many tiny pieces to stick on. A nice touch was the inclusion of magnets in the kit. I had enough to magnetise the rotor blades and the helicopter to the flight stand. This should make it a bit easier to  to transport.

On to painting!  Unfortunately I threw away the box with picture on!  Thankfully a quick Google got me a picture the colours I need. This is what I went with

I'm happy with her now to go find some tanks to kill!

School Holiday Tanks Battle

During the holidays my 6 year old challenged me to another game of Tanks Modern Age. So we broke out the Terrain and Tanks for a  game.

Our platoons were all our models, again I didn't use upgrades or crew as we would never remember to use them.

British Platoon (Lynx, 2x Chieftains and a Scorpion) 

Russian Platoon (3 x T-64s and a T-72)

 I'm m trying a new app on the game pictures so we shall see how it goes. I thibk I may just use it on the odd picture from now on  but this is a trial run.

Great game though soon we will have to start using the upgrades and stricter on the rules as he keeps beating me 😂

Tanks Modern Age: British and Russian Reinforcements

A new gaming shop has opened near me (well 2 or 3 miles away but that's the closest one so far!).  Its called Rogue Wargaming (Check out their webpage here. Its a bit bare at the moment as they have just started up) in Dudley Town centre. I popped over on Saturday and had a look around. It's small at the moment but as I mentioned they have only just opened. I had the kids with me so it was hard to stop and have a proper chat as I was herding them around and answering the Constant questions "Do you have that one dad? What about this one? You can't paint this good dad"
In store they had some Games Workshop and Warlord stuff to check out but also some Tanks items. Always wanting to help a new venture especially a gaming shop I opted to purchase a new Russian Tank to bolster the Russian platoon. I picked a T-72 as I have 3 T-64s already. I also got a new paint brush as well.

Early this month while I was on holiday in Dorset I visited the Tank Museum. I've mentioned this in a post here, in the gift shop I picked up a Scimitar / Scorpion light British Tank. After a bit of consideration I went with the Scorpion variant as it packs a bit more punch.
In the last few days I have assembled and painted them.

Both really alt nice kits to put together. No major issues all the bits mostly click or slide into place. I struggled with an odd tiny piece but that's mainly my bad eyes and fat fingers. My only grievance don't worry it's quite minor but I felt the Scorpion Tank is tiny (yeah I know it's a light tank) and after building it for the price paid probably could have had 2 in a pack. I know the US forces have Humvees and you get 2 in those packs. It's me being a bit greedy I guess.

After I had built them they were u dercoated and painted.

I think they look really nice. Hope you agree! Can't wait to have another Tank battle

Holiday so that's why I've been quiet

Sorry not many blog posts. I have been having a break away down Dorset.
I'm working on my first Barbarian unit for my Dragon Rampant Force.  12 warriors.

Also as I was in Dorset it was mandatory I went to the Tank Museum. Not so many photo's this time round but I got to watch a few vehicles go around the arena including a challenger 1.

In the gift shop I was excited to find products from Tanks Modern Age. I grabbed myself a Scimitar Tank to add to my British Platoon.

I'll have to add to my Russian force now so I have something to shoot at.

Woah! Been a while.

Just checked out my blog and realised I haven't posted for a while. I've been in Wales for 5 days which was a nice break away with the family even with the 12hrs of games and rain (Hey welcome to Wales). Obviously  I went to Porthmadog Models but being low on funds only a small purchase was made. The Rorkes Drift centre display had got bigger unfortunately I didn't get any pictures as my sons and their cousins also came in the shop so I had to give a very limited history lesson about Rorkes Drift.  I had my eye an Amera plastic castle type building but spotted some 15mm looking houses  These I thought would be useful for Tanks Modern Age.

Seem to scale up OK next to some 15mm tanks 

I thought these might be good all added to one terrain piece. Maybe a small hamlet. I've even started planning it along with some roads.

Just three houses with a small road junction but as one piece. The houses are Amera Plastic and as usual great quality. I'll keep you posted on these

On the models front been a bit quiet as I've not really had the time  My fellow blogger and best friend has recently got into Street Wars NYC. In his blog post (Check out his blog here) about the game he dropped a hint about where a gang would go. This I missed only to get a message offering me a gang from this new game

These look really cool and I'm looking forward to trying the rules out after I've painted the models.

And last of all I've been playing blood bowl on the PS4 in a Dads league and on my own with a few different  teams. I was thinking of doing a blog to track one teams progress (not my current team in the Dad league as they are terrible !!!)  I might pick my human team and start a new tournament if this is something people will like.

Tanks Modern Age Terrain

I've been after some terrain for Tanks Modern Age for a while. Its the only 15mm game I play so I have never gathered any terrain for 15mm. My trees seem to work quite well and I guess some of my fences and roads would also work. I do feel like I need some buildings though. The flat terrain you get in the box is great quality but sometimes you just want a bit more 3d feel to the table. As ever I'm on a budget so I thought I would look at free printable model railway terrain. I wanted either some office blocks or just general factory type buildings. Just to give my game an urban feel. I located a website that said TT gauge was the way forward so I found a free website and printed out a quick factory test piece. The results were not what I wanted

The scale is off to me, the building looks to small compared to the tank. Right back to the drawing board.
My new plan of attack involved a bit of research. I discovered that in 15mm scale, 3mm is roughly one foot.  Then I googled the average height of a door and a storey. I then made up my own building templates. Just a really basic industrial unit and office block.

They are very rough and ready but hopefully the scale is going to work. While I was waiting for some foam board to arrive I found some cardboard which I cut into the correct shapes. Then using my new purchase  a hot glue gun I set about making up some buildings. The glue gun is amazing by the way, so much better and faster for sticking stuff together.
I cut a bit of cardboard the size of the template and then another one where I then cut out all the window holes. The plan was to stick the cardboard with no holes together to get the building shape. Then glue on the other cardboard hopefully giving a 3d effect for the windows.

Next to a tank they seem to work much better.
