Hello 2020

Welcome 2020!

Happy New year folks. Thought I would do one of those big review / looking forward to the year type posts.

It was a good year for my gaming. The konflikt 47 campaign went along smoothly creating an awesome narrative and characters being formed.
My Tanks Modern Age force grew and I got Blood Bowl!

Didn't get to play D&D as much as I'd like (4 on 4 off shifts and 2 kids under 7 always is a time sucker) but the group I started with all got into Blood Bowl and the RCBBL was born!!! The blood bowl posts seem to be my most popular ones and they will keep coming . The league is amazing and everyone is having fun. Bit gutted the store league I wanted to enter fell through but this friends league is a laugh and everyone will have a second team for the second season (My orcs may retire and wood elves or halflings may make an appearance).  Also they appear to have started collecting Tanks Modern Age which is excellent news and potential more battles for me.

My kids tried pokemon D&D and seemed to like it so I may have set a little spark in them for role-playing.

The painting side of the hobby, well I'll keep plodding on. I make no bones about it I prefer gaming to painting but I like playing with painted models so needs must.

On the other games front, got a fair few models for various games and I really need to start playing. Operation Last train Home is a solo game I have mentioned and I really want to play this. With both kids going to school now I should be able to, I have 15mm Sci fi version and ww2 models ready to go.  There is also the 15mm Barbarian army I have been slowly gathering. Me and Alex Does Hobby will have to have a Dragon Rampant game in the next few months.

Halfling Blood Bowl Team

As you know my wife bought me the Halfling blood bowl team. After listening to many blood bowl podcasts  (2 Drunk Flings and Talk Nuffle) I feel the call of the Fling nation as its known. I'm awaiting some treeman (hopefully  incoming next week) to throw my halflings to victory....... Well maybe a draw.

I opened the team box with glee and the sprues are tiny!

They were a bit fiddly to assemble (glue halfling foot to halfling leg???) but they went together OK. The models are really nice and brilliantly Halfling. Some of the models have saucepans as helmets some have tea pots or culinders! Love it.

Even the balls are sandwiches and pasties!
Brilliant can't wait to put some paint on these guys!

Christmas Haul

First off Merry Christmas to one and all and a Happy New Year!
With 2 kids under 6 yesterday as you can imagine was a haze of wrapping paper invasions, battery finding and trying to stop them eating all the chocolate. I did get some hobby related stuff though. The wife bought me the Halfling team for Blood bowl. I've seen several YouTube videos and heard podcasts from 2 Drunk Flings and I have slowly been converted to giving Halflings a crack in Blood Bowl.  Gonna be a fun experience

Also got enough cash to buy some treemen as well. A must for any halfling team. 

Also in Santa's sack was this awesome dice tower.

In Tanks Modern Age my Russians have received reinforcements in the shape of a BMP

As you can see in the above picture I also got some Games Workshop PS4 games
Death Guard and Inquistor Martyr. Not seen Death Guard in action but have seen Inquistor so we shall see how they play.

I also got this new book now while not wargaming related. If you look at the front cover definatkjy like Konflikt 47

The book is called Tin Can tommies and boy do they look like British Automatons! Can't wait to get reading.

New Blood Bowl Team!!

Sold some models recently so decided to pick up a new Blood Bowl team. I went with Wood Elves as I fancied a passing orientated team compared to the teams I have (My humans are quite pass but I haven't been brave enough to try long passes yet). Wood elves have been my favourite elves in blood bowl mainly as they have treemen and war dancers 😂

Picked them up from the ever excellent Board in Brum and assembled them over the weekend. Really nice models but by Nuffle they are fiddly!!!!!

That's the contact point with the base on the catcher!! 

Right I  don't do resolutions but this I will pin models!!!!!!!!!!! No more superguling myself to myself (and not in an American Pie 2 way) anymore.
All assembled now so after Christmas they will get painted, the wife has chosen the team colours and even bought me a paint to go in my stocking.

RCBBL Quick Update. Undead vs Dark Elves.

Sorry about the long gap. Christmas prep has held everything back a bit but here we are with the last game of round 2.

Last night the Crypt Kickers (Undead) played the Death Spectres (Dark Elves replacing Slap and Tickle FC as real life kicked in hard so we lost a player for now fingers crossed he'll be back.).
I wasn't there to watch it but it appears the weather was a major factor. Sweltering heat lasted the game meaning several players passed out due to the heat. This seemed to effect the Crypt Kickers the most (The dark elves wear a lot less clothes than the undead I guess).
The score in the end was 2 - 1 to the Death Spectres. One injury each side and a player levelled up each side. The Crypt Kickers rising star Ghoul gained leap and the Death Spectres Witch Elf got block.

Looking forward to next round now!

Merry Christmas from the RCBBL!!!

RCBBL Bearwood Brawlerz vs Corpse Sporkers

Last night saw the 2 Orc teams in our league clash. The match was expected to be a brawl and it was!

I didn't take so many pictures of the game I'm afraid I forgot and also it was a lot of Orcs hitting Orcs.
The game kicked off with my team receiving the ball. The Brawlerz attacked up the left and was stopped so switched to the right. It was proving hard to burst through the lines.

When they did break through the Brawlerz blitzer was caught and tackled giving the ball to the Corpse Sporkers. They moved it back down into the Brawlerz half. Where the Brawlerz held firm. The half ended in a stalemate.

The second half saw the Brawlerz kicking to the Sporkers but the Brawlerz managed an early blitz. Striking the right side of the pitch and blocking off the other side. Nuffle seemed to take great offence to the Sporkers and by turn 3 they had used all their re rolls. The Brawlerz managed to fight their way towards the ball now in Sporker hands. A tackle thrown in and the ball became loose. The Brawlerz collected in and headed for the end zone. With a burst of speed the Blitzer managed to score!

With 2 turns  left the teams reset the kick off. The Sporkers had to go for it. The ball was scooped up and was passed to the blitzer in one of the outer zones of the pitch. He then charged forward as far as he could. The Brawlerz moved to stop him.

And with that the game ended, no casualties but a few KOs. The Orcs armour held mostly through the match.
Thanks to some serious luck, the Brawlerz blitzer who scored last game scored this game so he levelled up and the Brawlerz thrower got MVP and levelled up also!
The blitzer rolled an 11 and got to add +1 to his agility! The thrower rolled a normal skill upgrade so he took accurate. No upgrades on the Sporkers team this time.
The Brawlerz made enough money to buy an apothecary and the team even gained 1 fan factor!

RCBBL meet the teams!

I've been posting about our friends league the RCBBL. So I thought a blog post showcasing some of the teams involved in the leagues.
First up are the Undead Team the

Crypt Kickers

Awesome work I'm sure you will agree. Plus they have magnets on along with the ball so it's easy to keep the ball on the bases.

The next team is the Orc team the

Corpse Sporkers

A lovely painted team as well (Painted by the same guy who painted the undead team).

The third team is the Elven Union team

These guys look brilliant, being based around the Children of Thanos and even have different colour sashes to show what position they play! (The only way I can tell the difference between my lineman and blitzer is the lineman has spikes on both hands the blitzer does not).

The next team is my human team the

Ye Olde Giants

My team are named after New York
Giant players past and present. My main thrower is obviously Eli Manning and my Catchers Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham.

The next team are my Orcs

The Bearwood Brawlerz

I really like the purple on these guys. I really wanna get a goblin at some point but my searches for a super cheap 28mm Goblin that I can convert are drawing a blank at the moment.

We also have a team of dark elves but they are not painted yet but I'll do a post when they are.
I think you'll agree the teams look awesome and we are having a blast with the league

RCBBL Elves vs Humans

The next round in the RCBBL started with my humans Ye Olde Giants vs the Elf team the Outriders.  Both coming off a victory and full of confidence. The stadium had more Outrider fans in today giving them the edge in support.

The Giants elected to receive the ball and eagerly awaited the ball. Cheering fans sent an extra re roll the Outriders way.

The Giants scooped up the ball and started a drive up the right side.

The Outriders rushed to contain the drive. The Giants unable to punch a hole through the Outriders line switched the side of attack and pushed forward.

The lightly armoured Giants catcher used his speed to run past the defending elves (with a little help from the linemen). He handed it off to a catcher ready down field and that catcher sprinted for the end zone

Touchdown!!

The teams set up again and with a terrible kick the Giants boot the ball as far as just behind the scimmage. The ball bounces happily into the Outrider Blitzers hands who is stood on the line of scrimmage. Not the best start for the Giants! 

Predictably and why the hell not after the gift off a kick off the Outriders plough forward. 

The Giants rush to contain the lightning fast elves. 

The Outriders managed to break away from the Giants defence.

The ball was handed to the Outrider catcher, who put his head down and ran forward.

Touchdown!!!!!

All this action in just the first 5 Turns!

Ball was kicked off again to the Giants. Who picked it up and made a push forward. The Outrider defence pushed back leaving a Giant lineman in a heap on the floor.  The stretcher bearers carried the lineman to the Injury box.

The Giants pressed onwards. The thrower passed it to the catcher who spotted a gap and made a break for the end zone.

Touchdown!!!!

Ye Olde Giants 2-1 The Outriders

Halftime meant the Outriders were receiving the ball. Just before the kick off the excitement was to much for   the crowd and they invaded the pitch!

Once the crowds had been cleared off the pitch, 4 Outriders and the Giants Ogre were left lying stunned on the ground. The Outriders had a torrid time picking the ball, then trying to throw the ball but missing the intended target and the Giants seized the opportunity given by the pitch invasion. A press forward met they scooped up the ball.

The Outriders players chased after the attacking Giants and managed to get the ball loose.

Players all charged towards the ball.

With  a mix of players surrounding the ball. The Outrider Blitzer stepped forward and picked the ball up right under a linesman nose and launched it out of the crowded area towards the waiting Catcher.

The Giants couldn't believe what had happened with that throw, the whole game turned around. The only players nearby were a thrower and lineman.  Unfortunately they could not take the player down, Only push him back. With time running out the player handed it off to the catcher who dodged away from Giants. He then ran down the edge of the pitch.

The Outriders player ran towards the end zone and after passing 2 Going for It rolls they scored!

With only one turn left the Outriders kicked off to the Giants. In the town left the Giants blocked the closest players but no injuries caused. With that the whistle blew for full time!

The match ended with 4 touchdowns and 3 casualties. 2 on the Outriders team and 2 on the Ye Olde Giants. All were just badly hurt and will be back in action again next time. MVPs were worked out. One of the Outriders Blitzers levelled up gaining dodge. One of the Giants lineman levelled up gaining Block.

That was a cracking match. A good number of touchdowns but man those Elves can pull passes and catches out of nowhere!
