Lion Warriors Heavy Reinforcement

Another Dreadnought has arrived to support the Lion Warriors .

Again from the Station Forge line sold by Hammerline miniatures.

To make it different this guy has a different claw with a flamer and a plasma cannon. Now I can have 2 dreadnoughts striding I to battle providing fire support. As with the previous post I am getting better at picking out little details to paint which make the model pop. Like the piping along the side of the plasma gun.

Roll on next 40k game so I can play this guy

Bring on the Ale!!!

My awesome friend Alex bought me a 3rd party Norse blood bowl team for my birthday. I love the models so much. So now we know what team I am taking to the next season of Blood bowl don't we!!

I haven't named them yet but here they are in all their glory.

The Team photo

The big guy. My Yeti

Beer Pig!!

Mostly lineman

Ulfwerener and berserkers

I can't wait to try out this team as it seems quite bashy which I like.

I went with green to make the team stand out from my other teams I have. Looking at the pictures I need to start picking out more details I've improved lots but looking at the yeti I could have painted his tongue. That would help break his face up from one colour.  Their bases I added baking powder as snow. This hopefully makes them look a bit wintery

Overall I am happy with them and can't wait to play them.

The Road ahead 2024 (Update)

Just flicking through my blog and saw my post about plans for 2024 ( Check it out here). So I thought I would add an update!

40k

Imperial Guard has stayed the same apart from one unit that will be Tempest Scions. Not been tempted by the jump pack ones .... Yet. With the new codes expected in the first or second part of next year it's a kind of just wait and see now.

My Lion Warriors have been reinforced! Assault intercessors acquired and all painted up along with some other character options as well oh and a new dreadnought on the painting table. So these are going strong.

Bolt Action

Got the 3rd edition rulebook still not managed to fully read through it so haven't played a game yet but I did buy a 25pdr and a centaur tank for my British (ooo haven't done a blog post about them!!) so plodding along nicely.

Last Days

Still not played this. Thought it might be a good idea to try with the kids one school holiday but we shall see.

A Space ship game

I played battlefleet Gothic! An oldy but a goody. Had a great time

Starship Trooper Project

Well I've gone from 15mm to 6mm!! I even have actual models. I do need more bug models at the moment. The troopers have got to be outnumbered it's the only true way.

Star grave

I still wanna try this maybe next year . I might start actively planning an idea for 2 crews and see what's out there.

Anything Else

Gaslands and Rumble slam are fine, I'll play them if a game opportunity appears but don't need anything adding to them I don't think.

More lion warriors and a historical figure joins my forces

August's hobby money was spent on Socratis Melee units from the station forge printed by Hammer line miniatures. As ever with Socratis models you kind of have to decide what model is what in the space marine range . From this set I made up a unit of 5 assault intercessors, a chaplain, a judicar and a Reiver Lieutenant. I have 2 models left over I don't really know what to do with.

A Judicar

Yet to be decided could be an alternative assault intercessor Sgt

No idea with this guy!

A Riever Lieutenant

5 Assault intercessors

The Chaplain

Also with the coming of Bolt Action Version 3 I decided to treat myself to a new officer. I found the range from Stoessi's heroes and really liked British Army Lt. Col. – John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming “Mad Jack” Churchill. He shall lead my British forces in V3.

Starship Troopers

I took a brave pill and attempted to carry on and paint my 6mm starship troopers . The bugs weren't to complicated, I used some yellow and green speed paint. I know they have more distinctive markings but I don't have the skill or patience for that. The troopers, I used a dab off flesh coloured speed paint and then a dark grey contrast for the armour and a light grey on the guns. Not sure yet on the guns might have to try different colours. The bases I didn't dip in sand next time Indo more troopers I will dip their bases in the basing material. The the base edges inside colour code so I know difference between troopers, support weaponry  and officers. Still got the outpost base to paint up .

Gonna have a try playing them using xenos rampant rules . See how that plays

Tempest Scions

I always wanted to add some Scions to my guard army. Being able to deep strike with them makes them quite useful. So I naturally went to station forge. A lot of the grimguard special forces match Karskins more but I found these guys who look a lot like Hell divers to me but they still work. I bought them from South of Resin. The colour scheme is quite bright and showy but I'm my head canon they are from a very elitist planet and deem themselves better than normal folk (like the Volpone from Gaunts Ghosts).

These guys will be dropping in behind enemy lines to cause chaos!!

Blood Bowl!!!!!

The new season of our clubs blood bowl has started. This time round I decided to try and be a bit more competitive. It came down to humans or orcs. The fact orcs now have animosity tipped me over towards the humans. So the Smethwick Comets were born , named after Facebook friends so I can heckle them when they fail me ha ha ha my son has also entered!!! He is taking his dark elves. First two games in my son is on a free win (opponent had to withdraw) and a draw (against last year's champion) and my humans are on a draw and a win!

Oh also before the second season started they did an award ceremony for the first season. I won a trophy! I mean it was a wooden spoon but still a trophy!

Blast from the Past

My friend asked me to play a game at our club and we were deciding what to play and he offered you battle fleet gothic!

He had Imperium and space marine fleets so we got those out (old metal models ) and made up some fleets.

The game played really well. I have never played it before so it took us a while to get into it but once we had the basics down the game started to flow.

Overall was fun and I can't lie I did look at Ork ships when I went home .

More Forces for the Lion Warriors and some extras

Been a while I just realised! I've been on a nice slow burn of model building . The Lion Warriors got some reinforcements in the way of aggressors . Again  the Socratis range from Station Forge.

They went together easy and painted up nice. Still loving this yellow I chose

My good friend Dave also kindly printed me some Goliath demo vehicles. Time for the Guard unleash drone warfare mwha ha ha!

Falmouth Holiday

Half term family holiday. Not much wargaming to be done and no wargame shops found (not much time to be fair with 2 kids) but did do some exploring of Falmouth harbour old defences. First up a trip to the National Trust site  St Anthony Head.

Had a lovely walk and explore where we located the observation post for the battery.

Stunning views of the sea and coast line. Slightly up the hill was the battery it's self

The building was closed which houses the magazine but you could still climb up and see the 2 weapon emplacements.

Next up we were looking for some military places to visit (well me and my dad were,  the wife,  my mom and kids not so much), we found Cornwall at War museum but it was to far a journey for us . My wife the legend that she is found Predannack Anti Aircraft and Museum . Normally it's only open on Saturdays but as it was bank holiday they had an open day on where they would be firing the anti aircraft gun. There was also some re-enactors there also.  We popped down and had a lovely afternoon, the kids got to handle a brown Bess musket and see lots of WW2 weapons. They even got to move what I believe is a bofars anti aircraft gun.

The big gun (sorry I have no idea what type  ha ha ) was impressively loud when fired though I didn't record it .

The small arms display was good entertainment.

I know the top video wasn't quite small arms . Now the museum it self is clearly just starting up (why it's only open Saturdays) but the volunteers were super friendly and the place has loads of potential ! If you are down Cornwall walk it is definitely worth checking out their Facebook to see if they are up to anything. The link is here if you want to have a look.

We also had an explore of the area behind Pendennis castle on an evening where we discovered what we believe to be old gun emplacements right on the headland (exactly opposite across the bay the battery we saw at St Anthony Head).

Next up was Pendennis castle it's self! The pirates were there on the day we went so we got to see some musket, pistol and cannon firing to which was also a bonus!

The Tudor fort at Pendennis Castle

A most definitely not Tudor gun

Half Moon battery this was added in WW1 I believe

Inside the Tudor fort was a room with cannons pointing all around for a great defence

We had a great day exploring the castle grounds and seeing the various batteries from different ages . You could really see how this fort was integral to the defence of Falmouth.
We also got to see a Navy Wildcat helicopter I believe training at the mouth of the harbour which was very cool!
