Family Dnd Session 14. Into Dragons Teeth Castle

 The party decide to go through a side door, what looks to be servants entrance. They enter the door and go inside the castle. A dusty corridor was set out before them, 2 hobgoblins spot them but run off before the party can react. They press on and search 2 rooms but find nothing in particular. They notice some stairs leading down and decide to investigate. They creep down the stairs and find themselves on a tomb. At the end of the room is a large door and 2 armoured figures trying to get through the door.  Downhead and Azorak sneak closer but are spotted by the figures who turn round to reveal 2 Helmed Horrors. They tell the party  the Black Skull sees them and wants them dead, battle is joined! After a hard fought battle (and my sons discovering enemies with AC 20 armour are a nightmare to hit) with Ragnum getting hit lots of times (I forgot to rage d'oh!) the enemies were vanquished. The party investigated the door. A puzzle awaited them. 12 buttons and they need the 4 correct buttons. Every wrong guess sent a metal pole down into the ground which would eventually block the door. 2 wrong guesses and 1 correct one by pure chance later they decide to investigate the rest of the castle for clues. They head upstairs and back onto the ground floor of the castle. They discover 2 more rooms, not much in one but the other has 3 hobgoblins in. Ragnum and Downhead get stuck in to the fight. Ragnum strikes 2 Hobgoblins down and grabs the 3rd one and interrogates him. We found out he is here with his war band looting the castle. Downhead (my 5 year olds ranger) decides to let the hobgoblin live so he promptly runs off yelling that there are enemies nearby. The party check the rest of the floor and find 2 big doors leading to a main hall and stairs going up also a side entrance to the hall. Ragnum suggests he goes through the main doors to cause a distraction while the others come on through the side flinging arrows and fireballs. Ragnum kicks the door in. Rolls so high (love the high strength stat) he kicks one door off the hinges and it squashes an unfortunate hobgoblin! Inside the room is a hobgoblin Captain and 8 hobgoblins. A huge fight erupts, in the hobgoblin band is the one that Downhead let go, Downhead yells at Ragnum to spare that hobgoblin and manages to persuade Ragnum to not kill him so Ragnum just kicks him across the room knocking him out. Another hard fight occurs, Hail of thorns from the rangers really hammer the hobgoblins, they really hurt Ragnum but eventually the battle is won. Searching the room reveals some gold and a golden lute which Azorak takes a liking to. The group head upstairs, 2 hobgoblin are trying to break into a room but a force field is stopping them. As soon as they spot the adventurers they run away. The party notiee a golden lute picture above the blocked door. As they bring the golden lute towards the door the force field disappears and they enter a perfectly preserved room. An empty music stand and a some sheet music are next to a large item covered in a clothe. They pull the clothe off and it reveals a mirror in the mirror they can see Marius the Bard (one of the 4 ancient heroes that took an artifact) searching his room for something and looking upset. Azorak places the lute on the music stand and it disappears. It reappears in the reflection and Marius looks happy and plays it. His ghost then comes out of the mirror and walks off. The party follows and the ghost leads them back to the crypt and it passes through the puzzle door. The party have another crack at the door and solve the puzzle opening the door. A lone tomb is revealed which is the Bards tomb. Inside they find the Crown artifact! The bards ghost plays a magical song which rejuvenates the party. A secret cupboard opens revealing 4 bars of platinum. Each party member took a bar and they headed out
